Taking Time Out for Mother’s Day with Debenhams

Taking Time Out for Mother’s Day with Debenhams

Recently over on my Instagram feed, I spoke about how I still find it hard to believe that Mother’s Day is all about me. Even though I’ve been a mother for nearly three years, I still feel like a bit of an imposter when it comes to identifying as ‘mum’. Life is so hectic a lot of the time, I just don’t get time to sit down and think about life as a parent. It’s just something we crack on with, along with everything else we have to squeeze into the day.

Even if I do say so myself, I keep everything together over here. I keep the kids fed, watered and entertained. I make sure that the house is clean and tidy. As well as all of this, I run my business in the background, often into the small hours so that I have something that’s just for me. As Mother’s Day 2018 approaches and with a lot of thanks to Debenhams, I’ve been forced to sit back and think about the role I play in our house.

I’ve realised that actually, Mother’s Day should be about me. I should take some time out and enjoy being spoilt for a day, because for the rest of the year I work damn hard to keep my brood happy. With this in mind, the guys over at Debenhams were kind enough to send me for a Mother’s Day afternoon tea at Patisserie Valerie. It was time just for me, so that I could sit back and relax with lots of delicious cake. I absolutely loved every minute!

Taking Time for Yourself –

As a mother, I’m the first to admit that taking time out for myself is often at the bottom of my priority list. Like most mothers out there, I’m in the ‘as long as the kids are happy, I’m happy’ camp and for the most part this is true. There comes a time though when it’s not possible to keep the kids happy, if you’re not looking after yourself properly. That’s why I highly recommend spending some time all to yourself every now and again. Just like my hour spent with a cuppa and an afternoon tea. I left feeling super refreshed and after a particularly busy week, it was just what the doctor ordered.

Treating others this Mother’s Day –

As well as afternoon tea, Hubs and I took full advantage of a child free afternoon and decided on a little retail therapy too. Seeing as the day was all about being a mum, I thought it’d be a good idea to treat the other mother’s in our lives too.

We headed into Debenhams as they always have so much to choose from, it’s impossible not to find gifts to suit all tastes. With three mums to buy for it was the perfect place. For my mum we decided on a pretty Radley purse, it’s a very girly pink and I know she’ll absolutely love it!

The other two mums in our lives are my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law. I wanted to treat them to something that I knew they would enjoy. As we’d just enjoyed our afternoon tea, I knew I had to get them the same gift experience. It’s something that they will find really yummy and something they can do together too!

So with Mother’s Day just around the corner, it’s time for you to start thinking about how to spend your special day. Do something different, fun or completely relaxing. As long as you’re taking the time just for you!

Celebrating Two Years of Blogging with a Little Help from Bakerdays!

Celebrating Two Years of Blogging with a Little Help from Bakerdays!

Well who’d have thought it? The New Year is soon to be upon up and with it comes my second blogging birthday! The last two years have been a complete roller coaster, I’ve achieved things that I never thought possible and I’ve loved (almost) every second!

As well as starting my blog, the last two years have seen Hubs and I welcome our two girls into our team. So with the inevitable sleepless nights and long days, I feel even more ecstatic that The Tale of Mummyhood has managed to reach the two-year mark. There have been a few times when I’ve considered closing down my blog altogether. Those days that simply don’t seem to have enough hours, those where the kids leave you absolutely cream crackered and those when social media just becomes exhausting.

Despite there being the odd rough patches along the way, the last couple of years have taught me so much about myself and the blogging world. As well as the technical side of running a blog which I had to learn from scratch, I also had to learn how to run a business alongside bringing up two littles – which in itself is a mammoth task.

What I’ve learned from two years of blogging –

  • Blogging could be a twenty-four hour a day job if you let it, remembering to take regular breaks is essential to succeed and to stay sane.
  • It’s not always easy, but it’s vital to stop yourself getting sucked in to the ‘perfection’ that is social media. Remember that everyone is human and things aren’t always what they seem.
  • Know your worth and never sell yourself short.
  • Use the success of others as inspiration, don’t it make you feel inferior.
  • Remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Celebrating with Bakerdays!

To help me celebrate reaching this fabulous milestone, Bakerdays got in touch and offered to design a personalised cake for The Tale of Mummyhood. These amazing cakes can be designed by yourself, for any occasion. They’re also the ideal size to fit through your letterbox!

When my letterbox cake arrived, it absolutely made my day! Bakerdays had taken the time to design something that would fit well with my blog and they absolutely nailed it. It looked amazing! As with any cake though, the proof is in the pudding – pun intended! We had chosen vanilla flavour and it was so yummy, the sponge was moist and the taste was to die for. It arrived in double quick time too, which is handy for those last minute gifts.

So, thankyou Bakerdays for making my blogging birthday so special. Here’s to many more blogging years and much more cake along the way!

Vremi Baking Cups – Review & Giveaway

Vremi Baking Cups – Review & Giveaway

We’ve had a lot of fun this week at The Tale of Mummyhood HQ, as we’ve had our baking hats on. We were lucky enough to be sent a selection of Vremi Silicone Baking Cups and the girls couldn’t wait to get messy! I’m the first to admit that baking isn’t my strong point, but with the help of Hubs we managed to create some edible buns that we all enjoyed!

The great thing about these baking cups is that you get so many. With twenty-four in the pack you can make enough cakes for everyone and some for when the kids are finally in bed! They come in 4 different colours, pink, yellow, blue and green, which was great to help us identify who’s cakes were who’s!

So, how did we get on?

Having only used paper baking cups before, Hubs and I were super impressed with the ease of the Vremi silicone cups. They are so much stronger than the paper ones, so our cakes kept their shape in the oven and there were no spillages because of collapsing sides! They are non-stick too, so when you remove your cake from the cups you get the whole lot, rather than chunks of cake being left on the side of the paper.

As a parent the best thing about these cups is that once they’ve been used, you just throw them in the dishwasher ready to use all over again! This means that there’s no messy washing up to do and there are always baking cups in the house if the girls decide they want to make cakes! I know that our baking cups will get so much use as our girls get into baking. I think the practice will be good for me too!

If you’d like the chance to win your own Vremi Baking Cups and Apple Slicer, all you have to do is enter using the form below. Please do take a peek at the terms and conditions…good luck!
