We all like to have a place we can call our own. When we’re younger it’s usually our bedroom, where we can throw down our school bag and put some music on, and then probably get shouted at to turn it down. When we get a bit older, we still like to have a private space in the dorms or the halls of residence if we headed off to uni. And then we hopefully can afford an entire place of our own to live in, saving up from the time we hit 18 and sticking to budgets like glue. Well, hopefully we do that.
But if you’re already in a space you can call your own, do you really like the way it looks? Are you just wishing you could make a difference to the rooms you live, eat, and sleep in? But do you just not have the energy after the end of a working day? You don’t have the motivation to do some research, come up with some ideas, then go out to the store to buy some resources to make these ideas come to fruition. And that’s incredibly frustrating!
So this post is here to help you out! After all, if you can’t kick back and relax in your own living room, what can you do?! It’s time to find the right balance in your life, and one great way to do that is to make sure you truly love the place you live in. And here’s some ideas you can use to finally tip your inspiration and skill over the edge.
Are You Sick and Tired of Dreary Walls?
We know we are! And we’re talking about walls both in the interior and on the exterior, as curb appeal matters just as much as having a harmonious balance inside your house. Now’s the time to make sure you’ve got something interesting to look at, or at least have something relaxing your can close your eyes around.
Your dreary walls could just be plain white or grey painted, and outside they could be covered in scum and dirt. So now’s the time to break out a power washer to get rid of that problem, and let yourself be proud to come home, and not once again point out to yourself that you really need to get the siding repainted! You can find a handy guide to making sure you don’t blast off the vinyl you’re trying to take care of in the process.
And then you can design yourself a feature wall, so you can arrange your favourite books in a neat and pretty place, and then hang up a clock or a mirror to just add more of a focal point. It’s always nice to have a sofa in front of this wall as well, to make sure you can just reach up and grab the novel you’ve been meaning to finish for a while now. Or you could simply just wallpaper one side of your living room with an unusual scheme, which adds so much more life to a room, and even helps to express your personality!
Something like this would look fun, if you have the wall to accommodate it! (Image)
Add Some Unusual Furniture
Unusual furniture is a staple of the older generation, and there’s a good chance you’ve got some tucked away in your attic or in a storage facility. Well, now’s the time to get it out again, as it’s going to improve the aesthetic of your room, even if Grandma’s old chair needs to be reupholstered. All kinds of cabinets and bureaus and armchairs can be put into your living space to give it some more functionality and flair at the same time, and the wackier they are, the better.
Whether you want to hang up a hammock by your bedroom window to have somewhere nice to nap in the afternoon with some summer sun, or you want a chest of drawers that doesn’t even look like it should be able to open, this is your time to go crazy with your design choices.
And overall, this will help your space to feel a little cozier, and you’re going to absolutely love building your own collection of unusual furniture.
Do You Have Enough Room?
Before you go all out with your renovation or redecoration, think about the structure of your house. Mainly, think about how big it is, and how much space you have to work with. Sometimes we have to fit ourselves and all of our possessions into a cramped space, and there’s nowhere to go but up, but how are you meant to mount an extra bookshelf on the ceiling? It just won’t do!
So this might be the right time to rehouse yourself, and find somewhere better and bigger, and with rooms that suit all of your needs. And if you don’t think you can afford something like that right now, feel free to use this housing loan calculator to get you started on your journey. People are often more capable of affording a place of their own than they first think, and the real estate world isn’t as scary as you’ve been led to believe. You just have to do your research first!
Are You Happy with Your Living Space?
If not, now’s your time, and your chance, to do something about it! Even when you don’t own the place you’re living in, you can get decals and sheets to change the look of something. As soon as you put something like this on your walls and your kitchen counters, you’ve added a touch of your own love and expression to the four walls you inhabit.
But it could also be a good time for you to move on, so don’t count this option out either! Don’t worry, you’re not the only person in this kind of position, and you can easily find advice and information from other people on the internet. Do some research on it!
