Now it’s no secret that in a past life hairdressing was my thing. Even though those days are behind me I’m still a complete sucker for anything hair and beauty related. I love to test out the latest products and gadgets, it’s the perfect excuse for a bit of pampering!
This week I was offered the chance to try out the Xtava 5 in 1 Curling Wand and as you can imagine, I couldn’t wait to try it out. As a seasoned wearer of the classic ‘mum bun’, I thought it was about time I put the Xtava wand through its paces and gave the old locks a bit of a treat!
So, what does it do?
The Xtava Wand comes with 5 interchangeable ceramic tourmaline barrels of different sizes, allowing for so many different looks to be created with one simple tool. The different barrels include tapered wands for creating pretty curls and larger barrels with an additional clamp, to hold down long hair as you curl. My hair is super long so the larger barrel with the clamp was my first choice.
The wand has a great dual voltage feature, which adjusts automatically when used with a universal adaptor. You can also adjust the temperature to suit your hair type. Amazingly there are nine different curl setting to choose from, so you’re sure to find the temperature to suit you!
The wand has a 360 degree swivel cord to make manoeuvring it around you head easy. Also, differing from other wands I’ve used, the Xtava doesn’t have cool tips at the end of each barrel, aiding total coverage of each section of hair. Totally appreciating the benefit of this in theory, I was keen to find out how practical this feature would be.
How did I get on?
First of all, I loved having a choice of different sized barrels. Initially I thought I would only use one, however the small wands were perfect for the shorter bits of hair around my face, whilst the bigger ones were ideal for tackling the length around the back of my head. Switching between barrels is straight forward, with a simple twist and click, so swapping between them whilst styling was no trouble.
The choice of temperature settings is a real bonus with the Xtava Wand. My hair can’t take intense heat without drying out and becoming brittle, so I chose a lesser heat. This meant that after styling my hair was still shiny and soft, no frazzled ends in sight!
The only thing that took a little getting used to with this tool, was the lack of cool tips on the wands. If like me, you’re used to grabbing the end and twisting you may find yourself touching the barrel. Having said that, once I’d gotten used to it, the extra length on the wand had clear benefits. It meant that there were no straight strands that I had to go back to, I was able to get the perfect finish in minimal styling time.
Overall, I’m very impressed with the Xtava Wand. It’s easy to use, suitable for all hair types and gives hair a super soft, stylish finish! What more could a girl wish for?!
