Simple Steps Anyone Can Take To Avoid Common Diseases

Photograph

Lots of diseases could affect you at some point during the next few years. Of course, unhealthy people are far more likely to become ill than most others. With that in mind, this article will highlight some of the typical issues that could put you in the hospital and offer some preventative advice. Hopefully, those of you who pay attention and put the tips into action will manage to live a long and pain-free existence. The last thing anyone wants is to become ill while they’re still young and able to explore the world. So, read the advice from this article carefully and then adjust your routine accordingly. That is the best way to ensure your body doesn’t deteriorate too early, and it should mean you don’t have to take any medication for many years.

The most common diseases

While it’s possible to contract or develop a broad range of diseases, most doctors and medical professionals agree that you’re more likely to suffer from the following conditions if you live an average life. There is information below that explains the best ways of dealing with each situation. However, before we reach that stage, just take a look at this list:

  • Kidney disease
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Arthritis
  • Lung and other cancers
  • Heart disease

There are hundreds of thousands of cases of those diseases reported every single year, and so it makes sense to educate yourself about the best methods for avoiding them. Use some of the following advice to ensure you stand the best chance of remaining healthy for as long as possible.

Preventing kidney disease

Kidney disease can occur at any time, and so it’s vital that everyone does their best to notice the symptoms. In most instances, lower back pain is the right sign that should cause alarm. Be sure to visit your doctor and ask for an assessment if you have any concerns. People who want to prevent kidney disease should avoid drinking alcohol as much as possible. At the very least, you should never binge on that substance because it can cause lots of damage. Experts also recommend that individuals follow special diets to ensure they don’t harm their bodies. It says at https://defendyourhealthcare.us/renal-diet and other sites that there are lots of options on the table. So, you just need to find something that works for you.

Some of those diets will also assist people who’ve already got a kidney disease diagnosis. So, conduct a lot of research and don’t forget to ask your doctor for suggestions!

Preventing Alzheimer’s disease

Unfortunately, the cause of Alzheimer’s disease is currently unknown according to experts like those at http://alzheimersprevention.org/. Still, that doesn’t mean you can’t limit your chances of becoming ill if you follow the right advice. Most specialists claim you have a high probability of contracting Alzheimer’s if you consume a lot of alcohol or drugs during your life. People who spend time working in care homes also increase the likelihood of developing the illness. Wasting a lot of time on your own and avoiding social situations could also become a contributing factor. So, those who want to protect themselves should:

  • Live a healthy lifestyle
  • Avoid illicit drugs
  • Become a social butterfly

Preventing arthritis

Arthritis is a disease that affects the immune system. In most instances, the body produces too many white blood cells to protect against infections that don’t exist. That tends to happen around the joints which is why they swell and become painful. Regular exercise is the best way to keep your joints working properly and ensure you never develop arthritis. Thankfully, there are lots of fantastic treatments available these days that enable individuals with that illness to live a healthy life. Still, there is always a lot of pain involved, and so you should aim to avoid arthritis at all costs. Just be sure to:

Lots of people who suffer from that condition will end up taking painkillers for the rest of their lives. That can increase the chances of developing liver problems, and so it’s sensible to look for holistic alternatives before filling your stomach with Tramadol or something similar.

Preventing lung cancer

There is no getting away from the fact that tobacco is the number one cause of lung cancer around the world. If you smoke cigarettes, you consume a lot of poison every single day. It stands to reason that people who do that will become ill much sooner than the rest of you. So, it’s imperative that you take action and beat your addiction as soon as possible. That will reduce the chances of you getting lots of different types of cancers like:

  • Mouth cancer
  • Throat cancer
  • Stomach cancer
  • Skin cancer

Some other things increase the likelihood of someone getting lung cancer, but none are as prevalent as smoking.

Preventing heart disease

Heart disease is something that affects around 30% of adults at some point during their lives. In most instances, you won’t notice any symptoms until you reach your 50s or 60s. However, there are lots of things you can do to protect your body before then. Some of the best strategies include:

  • Eating a balanced diet
  • Staying physically active
  • Keeping your blood pressure under control
  • Monitoring your blood for diabetes
  • Avoiding drugs and alcohol

If you have any concerns about heart disease, it’s sensible to book an appointment to see your doctor right away. After a few tests, medical experts should have no trouble letting you know if there are any warning signs.

After reading that information, most people should manage to make some positive changes in their life that help them to stay healthy for the longest time possible. Hopefully, that will mean you can stay around long enough to watch your children mature into adults. You can then provide them with the same advice to ensure they care for their bodies most suitably. When all’s said and done, it’s the best instrument your kids will ever own. They just need to learn how to play it properly like you.

Taking Care of our Children’s Eyes with Vision Express – How Sun Savvy are You?

Taking Care of our Children’s Eyes with Vision Express – How Sun Savvy are You?

We all know how damaging the sun can be. As parents, we spend so much time worrying about the length of time our children are exposed to direct sunlight. We lather them in sun cream and replace their hats, what feels like a million times a day, all in the name of sun protection. More often than not, we make them sit under parasols and encourage them to play in the shade!

Even though we spend so much time and effort trying to protect our children’s skin from the sun, how often do we think about providing them with sunglasses to wear too? It wasn’t until recently, when we visited our local Vision Express store, that I learned the true extent of the damage the sun can cause to our children’s eyes. It’s surreal to think that we spend so much time worrying about our children’s skin, yet it’s far less common to worry about their eyes!

Did you know that by the age of eighteen, we have absorbed 50% of the total UV light that we’ll absorb in a lifetime?

Figures suggest that as many as 75% of parents are unknowingly putting their child’s eyes at risk, by not providing them with adequate protection when they’re out in the sun’s rays. Sunglasses are so simple, yet they do an amazing job at protecting our little ones. So with a little help from Vision Express, Hubs and I decided to invest in some quality eye wear for our girls. He and I also had new prescriptions, so we made the trip to our local store – it was time for new glasses all round!

Service with a Smile

Having done a little research into the kind of glasses that the girls should wear, I knew that they should have full UVA and UVB protection, as well as the CE mark of quality. Vision Express have all of this as standard. It’s possible to buy glasses from other places that don’t have all of the protection you need, so it’s always worth checking they’re going to do the job properly before you part with your cash.

Our local Vision Express store had so many cool styles for our girls to choose from. The biggest was totally taken with the Disney Princesses range. They’re unbelievably cute! She had purple Rapunzel glasses and the littlest went for a pink Frozen pair . We even had a little rendition of ‘Let it Go’ from the optician whilst she fitted them, which put a huge smile on their faces. Hubs and I went a little more mainstream with our new specs, pink just doesn’t seem to suit him! The fitting process was super quick, but made a huge difference to the look and feel of all of our glasses.

The staff at Vision Express were absolutely exceptional. We went in with two small and excitable children, parents you know what it’s like, but they looked after them and us with every ounce of enthusiasm and expertise. We can’t thank Vision Express enough for the guidance and service we received – would I recommend them? YES – without a shadow of a doubt!

*We were provided four pairs of glasses from Vision Express in exchange for this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own – we will definitely be back next time we need glasses!

Drinking Tea in Style with teapigs Feel Good Teas – Giveaway!

Drinking Tea in Style with teapigs Feel Good Teas – Giveaway!

Over the past two years, as I’ve evolved into mother, blogger and freelance writer my tea and coffee consumption has gone up tenfold. I’m constantly putting the kettle on, believing that a quick caffeine hit will get me through the day. The trouble with a quick caffeine fix though, is that it lasts just about as long as it takes to drink. Leaving me craving more and more, to meet the demands of my girls and my work load.

I decided recently that it was about time I began to think more about my health long-term. I want to be fit and healthy enough to keep up with my girls, as well as have the energy to continue to build my business and reach my goals. So to help me achieve this, I’ve partnered with teapigs on their #feelgoodtea campaign. teapigs have created three feel good teas, each containing different active ingredients that will serve the consumer at different points throughout the day. I was challenged to incorporate each tea into my daily routine and all I had to do was reap the benefits!

Feel Good Teas

clean ‘n green

To be consumed first thing in the morning, clean ‘n green is a tea to help you detox! This tea contains some really flavourful ingredients, including; lemongrass, ginger, coconut and green tea. The active ingredient in this is dandelion, containing antioxidants perfect for detoxing and starting your day with a kick. The best thing about clean ‘n green is that it’s just as yummy hot or as iced tea – whichever tickles your fancy on the day!

up beet

Best brewed in the afternoon, up beet is a tea to give you energy! My favourite of the three, this tea contains beetroot, green tea, ginger, and hibiscus. Prior to this challenge I was always the first to have a sugary tea or coffee to get me through the last few hours of work, not to mention the biscuits that went with it. This tea is a total game changer, I’m more focused and cutting out calories at the same time!

snooze

The perfect relaxing cuppa before bed, snooze is a tea to help you sleep! Having two small children in the house means that I don’t get as much sleep as I used to. For that reason I love nothing more than snuggling down with a cuppa and getting an early night. This tea contains lavender, chamomile and apple – a relaxing mix and the ideal accompaniment to a blanket and a good book!

Feeling good with teapigs –

The first thing I noticed when my selection of teas arrived was how amazing they smell! You can pick out each of the ingredients just by their distinctive scents. The packaging looks great, but the real beauty of the product is the teabag. They’re pyramid shaped, packed full with the prettiest, most colourful ingredients I’ve ever seen in a teabag!

I started off my first full teapigs day with a cup of clean ‘n green before breakfast. Usually this drink would be a sweet tea or coffee, so I was a little dubious as to whether my choice would really hit the spot. I needn’t have worried, I found it refreshing and I immediately felt healthier after drinking it. Day one, drink one was a complete success!

Out of all of the flavours the one that sounded most appealing to me was up beet, not only for its flavour but for its purpose. Working from home with two very young children to look after means that by 3pm I start flagging. I know that energy drinks and sugary snacks aren’t good for me, but that hasn’t stopped me reaching for them in the past to get through the afternoon. I absolutely love up beet! From the taste to the energy it provides, 3pm is fast becoming my favourite time of day. Dreaming of taking an afternoon nap has become a thing of the past.

The tea that sounded the least appealing to me was snooze, as much as I love the smell of lavender I wasn’t sure I would like the taste. I did however want to enjoy the benefits of it, so with my book in one hand and a mug of snooze in the other, I gave it a whirl with an open mind. Truthfully, I was pleasantly surprised! The lavender, combined with chamomile and apple tastes lush. The thing I love most about this tea, is that you’re surround by the relaxing lavender scent as you drink.

Over the past few days I’ve stuck to my new teapigs daily routine. The benefits of drinking these feel good teas, instead of consuming copious amounts of caffeine and sugar have become obvious. I no longer crave a coffee fix in the morning to help me wake up and getting through the afternoon is a breeze. I’ve also love my evening ‘me time’, with a mug of snooze in hand. I’m a total teapigs convert!

#TermTimeEssentials with Highland Spring – Staying Hydrated and Conquering the World!

#TermTimeEssentials with Highland Spring – Staying Hydrated and Conquering the World!

As a family we adore spending time outdoors, letting our little ones get to know their surroundings. Our children are perfect little explorers, they love nothing more than feeling the excitement of learning something new each day. Their endless curiosity and desire to conquer the world in front of them is amazing to see.

Now that the Summer is here, it’s the perfect time for them be outside to finding insects, building dens and enjoying what nature has to offer. For them to enjoy all of this though, it’s vital that they stay hydrated. So when we were contacted by Highland Spring to take on their #TermTimeEssentials challenge, I thought it was the perfect time to instil good water drinking habits into our children before the new term begins. It’s also the perfect time for my children to show that they’re #BravebyNature, a project created by Highland Spring allowing children to showcase their ability to conquer the world!

Staying hydrated is so important for both adults and children, but did you know that children need more water in relation to their body weight than adults? Also unlike us, kids don’t always recognise when they feel thirsty. With this is mind, I’ve made it my mission to encourage our children to drink more water throughout the day. I’ve put a ‘little and often’ system in place and since doing so,  I’ve already begun to notice a positive difference in our girls attention span and concentration. Whatever they’re up to they always have a bottle of Highland Spring with them, reminding them to keep sipping water as they play.

The Positives

One of the main positives of taking on the #TermTimeEssentials challenge has been the improvement in our girls’ attention span. They have more determination than ever to explore and to complete the tasks that we set them. Prior to this, it would become obvious that their concentration was waning and that they were becoming irritable. I know now that a simple hydration boost would have made all the difference and given them incentive to succeed!

Days out with Highland Spring by our side have given our girls even more drive to be #BravebyNature. This year they’ve enjoyed days out in the sunshine, surrounded by nothing but open space. They’ve learnt to fly kites, play football and have loved investigating woodland trails full of obstacles for them to overcome. As a parent, there’s nothing better than seeing your children have so much fun on these long Summer days!

Making Highland Spring one of our #TermTimeEssentials

Taking on the #TermTimeEssentials challenge has been a real eye opener for Hubs and I. Making sure our girls stay hydrated has always been a top priority, but making simple changes such as implementing the ‘little and often’ rule has been an obvious benefit to our girls. They’ve embraced their ability to be #BravebyNature, tackling anything that has gotten in their way!

So, thankyou Highlnad Spring! Not only have you been our Summer time essential, but your bottles of water are at the top of our #TermTimeEssentials list too!

Five Reasons You Should Exercise More

Five Reasons You Should Exercise More

I’ve always loved exercise, fitness and I are no stranger.  I’ve spent most of the past year working out at home, but with the Littlest turning one this month I’ve been feeling like it’s time to get back into keeping myself fit and healthy with a passion!

After re-joining my pre-baby gym, I spent a few days finding my feet with the equipment.  I then had a program drawn up by one of the trainers.  Having always trained by myself, this was a real eye-opener for me.  My trainer put me through my paces for around an hour, reintroducing me to the world I know and love!

Even though I have continued to exercise, doing it in the gym feels different.  The environment makes me work harder and the latest equipment makes working out much easier than you’d think.  So in light of my reignited passion for working out, here are five reasons why you should get more exercise:

Exercise boosts your energy levels.

When you first start exercising it can seem completely knackering.  Stick with it though, because once you start to become a little fitter your energy levels will increase.  You’ll eventually want to work out even more.   I for one always feel more lethargic if I haven’t been active enough during the day.  Even if it’s just a walk around the block, I guarantee it’ll make you feel alive!

Exercise reduces blood pressure.

This can only be a good thing, right?  In this day and age our lives can be so stressful.  Juggling work, children and everything else in between can see our blood pressure rising.  Taking a little time out to exercise can help to reduce stress and bring blood pressure back down to where it should be.

Exercise can improve your mood.

Depression and anxiety can be difficult to over come.  A lot of the time exercise will be the last thing you feel like doing.  However, if you can find it in yourself to push towards doing even a little, it often helps to lift your mood.  As an anxiety sufferer, I can vouch for the benefits that exercise has had on my mental health.  I find working out gives me the focus I need to distract myself from anxious thoughts and feelings.

Exercise can help you get better sleep.

This ties in well with the improvement of mood through exercise.  Not only are we wearing ourselves out a little more than usual, but our minds and bodies will feel more rested.  No more going to bed with an overactive brain, imagine the benefits you’ll reap from a good nights sleep!

Exercise can be fun!

Not all exercise is hard or boring.  There are so many different things you can do: classes, swimming, walking, running and many more.  You may have to try a few different activities to find what you like most, but wouldn’t it be great if you were exercising and having fun at the same time?
