The CBBC Summer Social – Review

The CBBC Summer Social – Review

*We were provided with a family ticket for the purpose of this review, as always all thoughts and opinions are our own.

After being invited to the CBBC Summer Social this year, I was a little dubious as to whether it would suit our girls at their young ages. Festivals are something that we have wanted to try out since having children, but doing it at the right age so everyone enjoyed themselves was a must for us. After speaking with the CBBC Summer Social team though, I was assured that there would be plenty for our girls to enjoy. It was clear that they were going to have a blast and so we prepared ourselves for our first ever family festival!

This years Summer Social was held at Croxteth Hall, Liverpool. A beautiful old building with amazing grounds, ideal for this kind of event. As I’d never been to Liverpool before and because I’m a bit of a Beatles fan, we decided to book ourselves into a hotel and make a mini break out of it. The first day saw us visit Paul McCartney’s childhood home and we had a walk down Penny Lane, I was in my element!

The CBBC Summer Social –

When we arrived at the CBBC Summer Social, the gathering crowds were a clear indicator that we were in for a good day. Right from the word go, there was something for the girls to see and do. From fairground rides, to story time and street bands. Entertainment literally was all around us and the girls just didn’t know where to look first!

Attractions we loved;

The Clangers Garden – This was huge hit with both of our children. Inside the walled garden there were life-sized Clangers hiding around every corner. There were crafts for the girls to get involved in and there was also the chance for them to water some of the pretty flowers planted in the garden. This was great full for all!

The Main Stage – the highlight of our day was by far the chance the girls had to see Mr Tumble, on the main stage. They loved every second of his performance and I take my hat of to the guy because he never faltered, even though we were in the middle of the heat wave of 2018!

Hubs and I were very impressed with The Philharmonic Orchestra too, they were amazing to see live!

The CBeebies Village – this part of the festival was a great addition for the younger fans. Our girls loved seeing Mr Bloom in real life and his set was very entertaining for them. They also loved seeing the Go Jetters, which is a firm favourite in our house at breakfast time!

The Fairground – as this was the first time our girls had been to a fair, they were very excited! We took them on the ‘cranky horses’ and the smiles on their faces just said it all! The only downside to this was that there were extra charges for the rides, which for a family of four could make the day extra expensive considering the original ticket cost to attend the festival.

Mr Wilson’s Second Liners – these guys were an incredible marching and dancing band! They walked around the festival performing at regular intervals throughout the day and they attracted a huge crowd each time! Hubs, the kids and I were so impressed with their performances!

Overall, we had a great day out at the CBBC Summer Social. With the exception of the cost of the fairground rides, the day was perfect and we all left with huge smiles on our faces! Thankyou at CBBC for the best, first festival!

A Day Out with Kiddylicious – LEGOLAND Windsor

A Day Out with Kiddylicious – LEGOLAND Windsor

*We were provided with two Kiddylicious snack boxes and entry to LEGOLAND Windsor Resort for the purpose of this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Ever since our girls were born, Kiddylicious meals and snacks have been a staple in our house. They make tasty, healthy and nutritious snacks that both of our kids still absolutely love. So when we were invited to LEGOLAND Windsor Resort for a day out with Kiddylicious, I knew they’d have an absolute blast with lots of yummy foods to keep fuelled up along the way!

I’ve heard such good reports about LEGOLAND, but until this trip we’d never had the chance to visit. Our girls have been into LEGO for some time now, so they knew straight away what the park is centred around. One of the attractions we were most looking forward to, was the digital LEGO Reef that’s been added new to the park for the 2018 season. It’s a floor to ceiling interactive reef, that allows the kids to create their own personalised virtual fish, which they can they see projected onto the big screen! Not only that, there are ‘feed me‘ buttons dotted around so they can feed their pet fish too! We were also looking forward to visiting Miniland, as there are new landmarks to see including; the USA, India, Russia, Australia and China.

Getting to LEGOLAND Windsor –

As we are Midlands based, LEGOLAND is a couple of hours drive away from us. Our girls usually travel quite well and thanks to Kiddylicious, they had a bowl of Little Bistro Oaty Porridge before we set of to keep them going on the journey. The porridge went down a storm! It’s full of flavour and really filling, as well as being suitable for children with or without a dairy allergy. Once they’d eaten up, they were mega excited to jump in the car and get going!

En route to LEGOLAND, I decided to download the official park app as I’d heard such great things about it. I like to plan our days out so that we can make the most of them and the LEGOLAND app is ideal to help you find your way around the park. It has a resort map as well as ride information and live queue times, so you know what rides are suitable for the kids to go on. The queue times were really accurate and super helpful when we planned where we were going next. We found it useful to join the longer lines when the kids were getting ready for a snack. That way they didn’t realise they were waiting, as they were so occupied with what Kiddylicious had sent them to munch on. Their favourite queue snacks were by far the Coconut Rolls, they’re dairy, gluten and nut free. They’re portion controlled and an easy ‘grab’ snack!

Picnic time –

LEGOLAND has many designated picnic areas where you can take time to rest and enjoy your lunch. As we went on one of the hottest days of the year, we found a nice shady spot and the girls delved into their Kiddylicious lunch boxes! They really enjoyed the Cheesy Stars and hubs and I were impressed when we read that 6 pence from every pack sold is donated to Make-A-Wish-UK. A charity that supports children and young people living with life threatening conditions. They were taken with the Biscotti too, in fact we’ve had to stock up on these since we arrived home!

After we’d enjoyed out picnic, the girls decided they wanted to go on the Fairy Tale Brook ride. They were completely in awe as the boats took us om a journey around all of their favourite fairy tale scenes. Fairy Tale Brook was a huge hit and I would highly recommend it if you have smaller children in tow!

Home time –

After a very tiring but very enjoyable day, it was time to head back to the car and drive home. As you can imagine, both girls were asleep withing 5 minutes of leaving the park, all of that fun had completed worn them out! Hubs and I were super tired too, so we were glad that Kiddylicious had sent some of their Little Bistro meals for the kids to have for their dinner. They really enjoyed them and it meant we didn’t have to start cooking when we got back. The Little Bistro meals are handy to have in the house for days like this. They’re microwave friendly, they have no added salt or sugar and they’re a great source of protein. They make super quick, guilt free meals!

We had such a great day out at LEGOLAND Windsor, thanks to Kiddylicous. There really is something for everyone to enjoy and it’s definitely somewhere we’ll be going back to in the future. We’ll remember to take out Kiddylicious snacks along too, they made the whole day so much easier with two toddlers in tow!

Festival Fun – The CBBC Summer Social!

Festival Fun – The CBBC Summer Social!

*We have kindly been provided with a family ticket to the CBBC Summer Social. As always, all thoughts and opinions are our own.

This year is the first year that we’ve had to work around school holidays. With the biggest in state nursery, it’s all about half term breaks and summer holiday plans! We want to make the summer holidays as special as we can, so that our girls know that if they work hard in school all year then they can have a total blast at the end of it. That’s why we are so excited to have been invited to the CBBC Summer Social this year! There’s so much on the agenda and we can’t wait for our girls to get involved in everything they have organised!

What’s on –

This year, the CBBC Summer Social is being held between 3rd – 5th August at Croxteth Hall in Liverpool! It’s the BBC’s biggest kids event and has a really great line-up that your littles will love! There’s Union J, Matt Terry, Johnny Orlando and Mackenzie Ziegler! Shrek the Musical will also be performing, as well as the New Hope Club!

If like me you have children younger than 6, then there’s an allocated CBeebies Village just for them! There’ll be sporting events, workshops and art activities all suitable for children from reception age. Also performing in the CBeebies Village are Andy Day and the Odd Socks, Mr Bloom, Swashbuckle’s Cook & Line and my girls’ favourite, Mr Tumble!

The CBBC Summer Social is set to be such an incredible event. We can’t wait to head to Liverpool and to see our girls enjoy their first summer holiday festival!

Days Out: Monkeying Around at Trentham Monkey Forest!

Days Out: Monkeying Around at Trentham Monkey Forest!

Days out with our girls are so much fun now that they’re getting a little older. We don’t have to worry so much about nap times and long gone are the regular pit stops to give the littlest her milk. Both girls are now fully aware of their surroundings and so we love nothing more than heading out for the day, letting them experience the amazing world around us!

Our most recent excursion was to Trentham Monkey Forest in Stoke-on-Trent. Monkey Forest is somewhere I’ve been wanting to visit for a long time, I’m absolutely animal mad so I had high hopes for the day. On our recent visit to Chester Zoo, both girls were so excited to see all of the animals in their enclosures. I couldn’t wait for them to realise that this time we would be in the enclosure with the monkeys, having a wander through their home!

When we arrived at Monkey Forest, we were greeted by a lovely lady called Lydia who gave us a little information and direction to make the most of our day. Our first stop was the Banana Cafe to grab a spot of lunch, before we headed into the monkey enclosure which is home to around 140 Barabary Macaques! The cafe has a great selection of food for adults and children, it was super clean and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. There’s also a picnic area if you prefer to take a packed lunch when you go out!

Once lunch was over we made our way into the enclosure. The monkeys have 60 acres of woodland to call home, there’s a trail around a large proportion of it for visitors to observe the monkeys in their natural habitat. As we walked along the trail both of our girls were peering into the trees trying to spot their first monkey, the biggest couldn’t wait to see one of the baby monkeys they have right now too! When we found the first group of monkeys hanging out on a large grassed area I couldn’t believe how chilled out they are. They just stroll through the woods and cross paths with visitors, it really is amazing to see. There are keepers inside the enclosure who we stopped and chatted to on a number of occasions, they offer so much insight into the how the Macaques live and behave!

We had the best morning walking through the woodland, down into a pretty valley with a stream, all the while watching the monkeys up to their shenanigans! As we got back towards the exit, we timed it just right to hear one of the keepers give a little talk on the Macaques whilst feeding them. It was clear to see how much this lady cared about the animals she looked after, I would highly recommend listening to one of these talks if you visit!

Overall, we had a fabulous morning at Trentham Monkey Forest. It’s the perfect day out for children and adults alike, both Hubs and I vowed that we would be back next year to see how the monkeys are getting on. I can’t recommend a trip to Monkey Forest enough, you definitely won’t be disappointed!

*We were given entry to Trentham Monkey Forest in exchange for this post, as always all thoughts and opinions are our own – we LOVED it!

PLAY! – Our Perfect Family Outing at Chester Zoo!

PLAY! – Our Perfect Family Outing at Chester Zoo!

I love the zoo, it’s always been one of my favourite things to do even before I had children. Now that I have two girls, I certainly don’t take any persuading if a trip to the zoo is on the cards. So when we were given the chance to take our girls to Chester Zoo for the day, I literally jumped at the chance!

We were all super excited on the morning of our trip. With Hubs singing ‘We’re going to the zoo, zoo, zoo’ and the girls raring to go, I packed up a picnic and we headed off. We were really lucky on the journey as both girls had a little nap, there’s nothing worse than a tired toddler combo when you’re off out. When we arrived in Chester, they were rested and ready to go!

As we headed through the gates of the zoo, we were greeted by a lovely lady who gave the girls a bag full of goodies which absolutely made their day. I still find the biggest walking around with her Chester Zoo bag over her shoulder! The eldest of our girls is a huge fan of elephants and as we walked into the park they were ready and waiting for her just around the corner, she was in awe of them – especially the baby elephants who were so cute!

One of the highlights of my day was walking through the butterfly house. It has a free flight zone with the most beautiful, big butterflies I’ve ever seen. As we were walking through, a vibrant blue butterfly landed on J’s coat and sat there happily as we made our way through the house. It really was amazing to see! Soon after we went into the free flight area in the bat cave which was also great fun, we had to do so much ducking and diving as the bats darted around our heads!

Both of our girls were in their element as we made our way to the PLAY! zones at Chester Zoo. The main play area was amazing for the kids to burn off a little energy! The zoo also has smaller play areas dotted around the park, adding more entertainment for them along the way.

We had the best time at Chester Zoo, it was amazing to see our children enjoying themselves so much as they took in all of the amazing sights. If you’re thinking of heading to a zoo this Summer, we can’t recommend Chester enough! It really was the perfect family outing and we will definitely be returning, thankyou Chester Zoo!

*We were given entry to Chester Zoo in return for our honest opinion of the day. As always, all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Diggerland Yorkshire – A Fun Day Out for all the Family

Diggerland Yorkshire – A Fun Day Out for all the Family

Now that the Summer is upon us, we love nothing more than getting out and exploring. Our girls are at perfectly inquisitive ages and their enthusiasm and excitement when we go out for the day is amazing to see. So recently, when we were offered the opportunity to visit Diggerland in Yorkshire, we just couldn’t say no!

So how did we get on?

On arrival our girls were completely awestruck by the amount of diggers all in one place! There were so many fun things for them to do each way they turned, they didn’t know which way to run first! We’d read on the Diggerland website that they had a new range of Little Tikes play zones which sounded perfect for them, so we decided that’s where we would head to!

As soon as J and E saw the Little Tikes play zone, they couldn’t get in there quick enough. The littlest jumped straight into a cozy coupe and the biggest dived to one of the may water tables that surrounded her.  All of the water tables had different elements, with diggers, flumes, fishing rods and much more. It was a scorcher of a day, so they were a great way to keep the girls cool too!

It took us a while to convince the girls to explore the rest of the site, they were having more than enough fun where they were! With the promise of another visit before we left, we strolled around the rest of the park. There are so many rides to choose from! We were a little restricted due to our eldest daughters height, but at 0.8m this was to be expected. Nevertheless there are more than enough rides to keep children of her age happy. Hubs was in his element as he took her on the diggers to knock down skittles and to hook a duck, it was perfect father and daughter time. They absolutely loved the go carts too!

As well has having the outdoor rides, Diggerland also has an indoor soft play and picnic area. Our girls love soft play, so this was an added bonus and they couldn’t wait to go inside. This area offered the perfect end to our day out, with a bouncy castle to play on too which the kids loved!

Overall, we had a fabulous day out at Diggerland and we’ll definitely be returning. As our girls get older there will be so much more for them to do, as well as all of the activities they enjoyed on this visit! We all left with smiles on our faces and the girls were absolutely shattered, I call that a parenting win – thankyou Diggerland!
