Welcome to #WorkshopWednesday, my weekly feature with a focus on all things blogging! Each week there’ll be tips, tricks and advice on how to get your blog running like a well oiled machine!
How many hours do you spend blogging each week? How long do you spend carefully crafting your posts, packing them full with killer content and razor sharp images? I bet it’s longer than you realise. Our blogs become our empires and they’re a credit to each and every one of us, but it doesn’t matter how long you spend doing all of this stuff if your social sharing isn’t on point. You could be producing the best content in the world, but unless you make sharing easy your work won’t get the exposure it deserves.
As bloggers, we put in a lot of hard work trying to get visitors to our sites. When we do get traffic and they’ve read our fabulous posts, often they’ll want to share it to spread the word. The key thing to remember though, is that your readers won’t go out of their way to share your work – you have to make it easy for them!
Make sharing easy –
One of the simplest ways to make your content shareable, is to add share buttons to your posts. There are so many plugins to choose from, offering different styles depending on the look of your site. You can get buttons for an array of social media platforms too, just to make sure you have all bases covered. Once you have the plugin, share buttons will automatically be added to every post that you publish. All it takes is five minutes to set up, but for that it gives you years of loyal sharing service!
One of the key things to remember, is to add your social media handles to your share buttons. This is particularly advantageous where Twitter is concerned. If your handle isn’t added, readers and fellow bloggers won’t go out of their way to find it. So more often than not they leave without sharing your content with their audience. Personally I visit hundreds of sites on a weekly basis. I simply don’t have the time to trawl Twitter, to find handles for the posts that don’t already have them. This unfortunately means that some posts don’t get shared.
I firmly believe that social media is a key element to blogging success – make sharing super simple and get your content out there!
