Lapasa Down Jacket Review – Discount Code

Lapasa Down Jacket Review – Discount Code

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to work with fitness brand Lapasa, on their great range of yoga leggings. I was really impressed with their product, so much so that they are still my favourite workout leggings. Recently I got the chance to try out one of their down jackets and with the British weather this week, it couldn’t have come at a better time!

I’ve never owned a down jacket before and if I’m honest I didn’t even know it was a thing. After looking through the Lapasa site I realised that this kind of jacket would be ideal for me, as a family we spend a lot of time outside and so keeping warm is always at the forefront of my mind!

Lapasa Duck Down Jacket

These quilted, duck down jackets are super lightweight. I was really surprised by how warm the jacket is considering that it’s so light. When we take the girls out we have to carry their drinks, their bikes and anything else they pickup along the way. So a jacket that’s warm and allows for movement, but doesn’t weigh me down is perfect!

I chose the burgundy colour, but this piece is also available in black, blue and navy. I would usually have opted for black as that’s a safe colour for me, I’m so glad I went for the burgundy though. It’s nice to push the boundaries a little and add a little colour to these dark winter days!

Now as I’m a blogger, it will come as no surprise to you that I always have my phone and often my camera with me. These days I can’t leave the house without and array of equipment in tow. So what I really love about this jacket is that it has deep pockets, I know my phone is safe and on hand when I need to snap a few shots!

This jacket really is great for anyone who loves an outdoor adventure. If you’re the more extreme sports type it definitely ticks all of the boxes. If like me you’re a little tamer, it’s a jacket that is expertly suited to everyday use. Since wearing my jacket, I’ve commented so many times on how warm it is. I’ve never had a jacket that keeps the wind out so much. So, top marks Lapasa! This is a really fabulous product that I’m proud to wear!

The guys over at Lapasa have provided my readers with an Amazon discount code. Use ‘mummyhoo’ to get 5% off of your order!

#WorkshopWednesday – How to Boost your Pinterest Views in Just a Few Hours

#WorkshopWednesday – How to Boost your Pinterest Views in Just a Few Hours

Welcome to #WorkshopWednesday, my weekly feature with a focus on all things blogging! Each week there’ll be tips, tricks and advice on how to get your blog running like a well oiled machine!

When I first opened my Pinterest account, I was baffled. I didn’t really see the point to it and honestly, I found it a little confusing. That was until blogging became a serious profession for me, then I learned just how useful Pinterest can be. These days I’m a huge fan of the platform and I often find myself getting lost in its realms. The best thing about it though is that it’s a great source of traffic – if you’re getting it right!

During my first few months on Pinterest my views were always below 1K/month. This meant that referrals back to The Tale of Mummyhood were incredibly low, if any at all. Then I discovered Pinterest group boards! Group boards can be set up by anyone and that person can then invite collaborators to pin to said board, as well as themselves. The beauty of this, is that you can set board rules within the description to ensure that content added is being shared further than the board.

For example, the Blogstravaganza Group board has a rule that for every one pin you add, you have to repin one from another collaborator. Thus, increasing the views of your pins.

Once I’d established myself in a few group boards, I found that my views and traffic back to my blog went up immensely!

Where can you find group boards to join?  One of the best places to find boards to join, that are relevant to your niche is the Pinterest Group Boards Facebook group.

Things to remember –

  • Always find and use boards that are relevant to your niche, that way you are targeting the correct audience.
  • Always stick to the rules of the board, it’s only fair to all of the other collaborators!

Our Bespoke Family Pendant from Judith Peterhoff Jewellery

Our Bespoke Family Pendant from Judith Peterhoff Jewellery

I’ve always been a lover of fine jewellery. I find the craftsmanship that goes into such pieces absolutely fascinating, it really is such an art. So I was really pleased when recently I was lucky enough to be contacted by the lovely Judith, from Judith Peterhoff Jewellery to review a family pendant. Judith is a jewellery designer who specialises in bespoke orders. All of her jewellery is handmade in her studio in North London, where she puts her heart and soul in creating some truly beautiful pieces.

Bespoke Family Pendant –

Judith’s first family pendant was a commission for a friend, who had recently had a baby. She had the wonderful idea to create a sentimental piece to represent a whole family, without having to engrave names across fine jewellery. Through placing different sized rings made from contrasting materials together, she was able to create an individual pendant to depict this new family!

After spending some time talking to Judith about our family, she was able to get an idea of our set up and had the perfect piece in mind to represent myself, Hubs and our girls. Judith created a sterling silver family pendant with two large rings on the outside and two smaller rings on the inside. The two larger for Hubs and I as parents and the two smaller for each of our girls.

When my pendant arrived I really was taken aback by its beauty. Each ring is perfectly round, with the larger of the two seeming to protect the smaller rings. My pendant has two large sterling silver rings, with two copper baby rings. I love the contrast between the different materials, it really makes this piece stand out from the crowd. Each pendant also arrives with its own chain, meaning it’s ready to wear as soon as it arrives.

I love that my pendant is so personal, it means so much to me that it’s a sign of the people who I love most in the world. It’s obvious from the outset that Judith is passionate about her work. The family pendant really is an exceptional piece, that displays such a high level of care and craftsmanship.

These pendants are the ideal gift for new and seasoned mothers alike. The fact that these pieces are handmade to order means that each one is unique to the family that it’s made for. I couldn’t be happier with my pendant, so thankyou Judith, it really is something that I will treasure forever!

If you want to find out more about Judith Peterhoff you can find her on Facebook, Instagram and!

*I was gifted my family pendant for the purpose of this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. This really is an exceptional pieced of jewellery!

Bathroom Secrets – Making Time to Relax as a Busy, Working Mum!

Bathroom Secrets – Making Time to Relax as a Busy, Working Mum!

It’s common for my days as a working mum to pass in a complete blur. It’s rare for me to get any downtime at all during the day. Working from home without childcare certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted! Most of my time is spent alternating between entertaining our girls and getting as much work done as is humanly possible.

All work and no play, makes Zoe a very dull girl though. With breaks few and far between it’s too easy to start feeling a little burnt out. As I get zero time in normal hours, my go to place to relax after the kids have gone to bed, is the bathroom! For me, there’s no better way to unwind than sinking into a red-hot bath with a good read for company!

As this is often my favourite part of the day, I like to make it as luxurious as possible. I have my own luxury bathroom cabinets full of goodies, to make my bath-time the perfect spa-like experience!

Time to relax –

Here’s how I turn our bathroom into a relaxing home spa!

  • The first thing I do is rid our bathroom of all of the kids toys, as taking a bath with a plastic pirate ship is far from relaxing! During the day there are toys out all over our house too, so when the littles are in the land of nod it’s nice to sit in a completely toy free space.
  • After looking at a bright laptop screen for most of the day then my smart phone screen in between, the next thing I do is dim the lights in the bathroom. Giving my eyes a rest feels so good, I even add a few candles to make the experience more relaxing.
  • The perfect bath wouldn’t be complete without using my favourite therapeutic bubble bath. I love to use relaxing scents such as jasmine and lavender, they’re so good for helping me to sleep too!
  • After spending some time letting the stresses of the day float away, I like to get myself wrapped up in a fluffy dressing gown and slippers. Bliss!

All of this makes for the ideal end to each day. I find that I need this time to prepare myself for another day of work and parenting combined. We all need a good work-life balance to carry on performing at our best. So if you’re feeling like you need a little downtime, head off for a little home-spa – you deserve it!

How do you like to relax after a long day?

#WorkshopWednesday – One Simple Secret for Boosting your Instagram Account

#WorkshopWednesday – One Simple Secret for Boosting your Instagram Account

Welcome to #WorkshopWednesday, my weekly feature with a focus on all things blogging! Each week there’ll be tips, tricks and advice on how to get your blog running like a well oiled machine!

Instagram has to be my all time favourite social media platform. I absolutely love it and I spend a lot of time trying to build up my account. With the recent algorithm changes though, Instagram is harder to crack than ever before. These changes have seen engagement drop significantly across the board, as the non-chronological feed doesn’t show our follower’s what we’re posting, when we post it!

I know a lot of bloggers who have fallen out of love with the platform since the new algorithm was implemented. This is a real shame, as Instagram can be a great source of traffic and work if you’re a blogger. So finding ways to get around the changes is essential if you want to progress.

My Insta top tip –

This may seem obvious, but one of the best ways to build up your Insta account is to make use of the hashtag. Not just any old hashtags that you fancy though, the right ones to further your reach and to improve your engagement. There are so many hashtags to choose from though, so where do you begin?

Spend some time researching hashtags that are relevant to your niche. Maybe check out what fellow bloggers are using, especially the ones who have good engagement on their posts. You can use up to 30 hashtags per post and I recommend that you make use of them all. It’s essential that you use hashtags that are relevant to your niche, so that your posts are being shown to people who will be interested in your content.

Things to remember –

  • Adding general hashtags to your content, such as #happy, will mean that your content could be drowned out by other users as it’s far too popular. On writing this post there were 405,253,691 posts with the tag #happy. Using tags like this can also put you at risk of being shadow-banned, meaning your content won’t show up in the tag feed at all.
  • It’s best to use hashtags with a medium number of posts already within the feed. If there are too many they get lost as we discussed above and if there are too little, you won’t reach the wider audience you’re looking for.
  • Be sure to interact within the hashtags you decide to use. The more you interact with others, the more they’ll interact with you!

Happy Instagramming!

Feeling Festive with Prestige Flowers

Feeling Festive with Prestige Flowers

This week, our house has been well and truly doused in festive spirit! With our girls becoming more aware of what Christmas entails, Hubs has taken it upon himself to make sure our home resembles Santa’s Grotto! With oodles of tinsel and reams of fairy lights, both girls have struggled to know where to look first.

As much as I love to see the kids faces light up when we get the decorations out, it’s also nice to keep an adult feel about the place. Too much tinsel can get a little glitzy for me! Luckily, this week were treated to a fabulous Christmas bouquet from Prestige Flowers. Flowers are a sure-fire way to put a smile of my face and they definitely offer our Christmas scene a bit of class, to counteract the sparkles!

A Christmas Bouquet –

Our bouquet was delivered really quickly, via the Royal Mail. Safely packaged in a branded box. I knew immediately what they were and was so excited to get them out. On opening the box I was surprised to see that not only was there a gorgeous bunch of flowers, but they also came with their own vase and a box of chocolates!

I love that these flowers are already arranged beautifully before they are packaged and are then held together with an elastic band. This is perfect for people like me, who unfortunately flower arranging doesn’t come naturally to! All I had to do was fill the vase, add the sachet of food attached and place the flowers in. Voila! Picture perfect flowers, with no need to spend ages creating the perfect look.

Our bouquet was made extra Christmassy with bronze stars and leaves added to the bunch. This makes them feel really festive, they certainly stand out from the simpler bunches of flowers that we usually have. As I work from home, I’ve put our flowers on my desk to brighten up the spot where I spend most of my time. It’s definitely nicer to sit with a fresh bunch of flowers, rather than just my laptop for company!

The Christmas bouquets from Prestige are the ideal gift for your loved ones, or even to give as a present to yourself. Our home has certainly been brightened up since their arrival and the chocolates were totally yummy too!

#MumisBest Guest Post – Lisa from Travelling with Kidz

#MumisBest Guest Post – Lisa from Travelling with Kidz

Welcome to another instalment of my new guest series #MumisBest!  #MumisBest is all about the ever-growing SAHM/working mum debate.  I really want this series to highlight that there’s no right or wrong way, but whatever works for you and you family.  If you’d like to take part do get in touch, I’d love to hear from you!  For now I will leave you in the hands of Lisa from Travelling with Kidz!

To Work or not to work now that is the question?

So I set out to do some research on working families. And do you know what  I discovered? Well, that in America during 2016 the mother was employed in 72.5% of the population and the father was employed 82.6% of those families. Interesting right. So what about the families that have both parents working what happens to their under school age children during the workday?

I myself have had different styles of childcare in my 12 years of being a mother. I enjoyed all of them and have learned through experience that there is really no wrong or right way for childcare choices. The services you see for childcare are either a good fit or a bad fit.

With my first child I had a younger family member move in with us to care for her. This was ideal for me because being my first child I was terrified of the idea of leaving her with complete strangers. It was something I was not accustomed to. My grandparents had taken care of me while my mother worked all the way through high school. So having a family member care for my child just came naturally. This worked out for about a year and a half. Then we learned we were expecting again so we had to seek alternative childcare.

We sought out an upstanding daycare provider that got good reviews online as well as wonderful reviews by word of mouth. So my 2 year old and my newborn were going to start the big “D” Daycare.  The year went well then we found out we were expecting again.

It was when that I felt the need to give stay at home mom a whirl. So with 3 children at home I found my days filled with love, happiness, laughter and a bit of craziness. I stayed home for a year and a half. I loved it but to be honest I longed for the interaction that work brought. I missed the work routine.

So I went back to work and again we found out we were expecting. So we went back to daycare and started with afterschool care at the older kids school. It went on like that for 5 years. It worked out for all of us.

It wasn’t until we had our 6th child that we decided that our daycare/afterschool fees were to high. I did some research and was shocked to find out that families were spending on average 10-25% of their monthly household income on childcare services! That’s a lot of money! However, I wasn’t ready to stay at home again. I still had career goals that I wanted to reach. (Don’t get me wrong I LOVE my family and they come before anything. But with 6 kids we needed to be a 2 income family)

It was then that I met a girl at work who was fun, caring and trustworthy. Not to mention that my children really liked spending time with her. So that was the beginning of Nanny adventure. I must say that it is a really good fit for us. She helps me out immensely at home with the children. This has by far been the best childcare option I have tried to date. This is my good fit.

As you can see I have tried out several forms of childcare and have found that for my needs a Nanny is the best fit for my family but again everyone is different. What do you do for childcare? What works best for you and your family?

My name is Lisa. I am a wife and a mommy of 6. Also work full time outside of my house. I am a vacation planner, a peace keeper, a beginning blogger, a money saver and the owner of many other hats.

Let There Be Light – Creating Our Forever Home

Let There Be Light – Creating Our Forever Home

I’ve spoken quite a bit recently about revamping our house. After being here for a few years and finally deciding this is where we want to stay, it was time to put our own stamp on the place! Since we’ve already finished our living area and Hubs made me the perfect office space, it was time to tackle the bathroom. The trouble with our house is that it just doesn’t seem to let enough light in. So we decided a fresh lick of paint, in one of the darkest rooms in the house might brighten things up a little!

There’s nothing worse than trying to get ready in a dimly lit area. Not only does it put me at risk of applying far too much make-up, but it means Hubs has to be careful when he’s shaving too. We definitely don’t want any accidents! So, as well as painting we decided to replace our old spotlight bulbs with bright LEDs. It’s been so nice to get rid of that old-school warm glow and to replace it with more of a daylight feel. Daylight bulbs are a really great way to brighten the place up and they don’t break the bank!

Something missing –

As much as our bathroom felt so much better after a little decoration and fixing the lighting, we couldn’t help but feel like there was something missing. The whole room felt totally bare and clinical, it needed character! One thing we’ve always lacked in there is a good size mirror, for years we’ve made do with a small shaving mirror. With two more girls in the house though, Hubs and I knew this wouldn’t suffice for much longer!

After doing a little mirror research, we came across a great range at The beauty of these mirrors is that they have built-in LED bulbs, to add even more light to the room. With a few different styles to choose from, we were a little spoilt for choice. In the end we went for super looking, slim mirror with dot lights to add a touch of style!

All of a sudden, the darkest room in the house turned into the brightest. It’s so nice to get ready in there each morning. Hubs is happy that he no longer has to shave in a dark room, using a tiny mirror! The lights on the mirror are so handy when I’m putting on my make-up too. They give you a good idea of what you’re going to look like in the daylight, so there’ll be no more make-up mishaps for me!
