Little Alf The Magic Helper – Review & Giveaway

Facebooktwitterpinterestinstagram

Here at The Tale of Mummyhood HQ, we are book mad!  Every evening once my girls are ready for bed, we snuggle down with some warm milk, ready for story time.  So when children’s author Hannah Russell gave us the opportunity to review her special edition Christmas title, Little Alf  The Magic Helper, we jumped at the chance.

Hannah was just 17 years old when she began writing her first book, The Magical Adventure of Little Alf – The Discovery of the Wild Pony, based on her very own and very adorable Miniature Shetland, Little Alf.  Since then Hannah has written a further two books in the series; The Magical Adventure of Little Alf – The Enchanted Forest and Little Alf The Magic Helper.  Alongside her books Hannah has also created a clothing and accessories range, using her own logo.

Little Alf The Magic Helper Review

The first thing that really stands out is the front cover. I know I shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover but it really is lovely.  The book feels nice to hold, and the art work sets the scene for the tale.   Even Hubs commented on how charming it looked!

As well as being book mad, I am also animal mad.  Throughout the book there are many pictures of Little Alf posing for the camera in all his glorious cuteness!  Baby J loved seeing pictures of him.  Everytime we turned a page and he was there she shouted ‘Alf’, followed by an infectious little giggle.  This really helped to keep her interested.

I love how  Hannah encapsulates the magic of Christmas in her book. Even in the middle of August, it was easy to get caught up in those warm and fuzzy Christmassy feelings!  This is the first year that Baby J will be aware of Christmas, I’m already looking forward to getting our copy of Little Alf out and reading it, surrounded by baubles and tinsel!

Baby J is younger than the target audience age of 6-12.  For this reason we chose to read the book in stages, over a few evenings to keep her engaged in the story.

Overall, Little Alf has been a great success in our house.  Baby J loved to settle down each night to hear more!  I absolutely loved to see the pictures scattered throughout the book, topped off by the ‘Little Alf Photo Gallery’ found towards the end.

The Little Alf Clothing Range

Hannah sent us a jumper from her clothing range for Baby J to try out.  I have to say, I absolutely love it!

The jumper has the Little Alf logo on the front, a hood and a super cosy fleece lining.  The colour and style of the jumper suit Baby J perfectly!

I am sure all mums will appreciate it when I say that the jumper washed lovely.  This is a definite plus point!  As a result, the Little Alf range will definitely be making it’s way into our girls’ wardrobe.

That little logo on the clothing is so cute! I couldn’t view the terms and condition on the giveaway though? The text was disappearing behind the photo? Don’t know if that’s just my browser though. #MarvMondays
